Justin Nauer Receives $1,000 Toward DMC Education from Coca-Cola Scholarship
Foundation
Motivated DMC student noted for academic record and ongoing commitment to
community service
Accomplished and motivated are two good words to describe
Del Mar College student Justin Nauer. Not only did the College induct him into
its Hall of Fame this spring, he became the national student president of the
international business honor society, Alpha Beta Gamma (ABG) during their national
convention in April.
Recently, Nauer found out he is the recipient of a $1,000 award from the Coca-Cola
Two-Year Colleges Scholarship Program. Each recipients institution nominates
them based on academic achievement and ongoing commitment to community service.
Among the criteria, nominees must hold a minimum grade point average of 2.5
out of a 4.0 scale and have completed 100 hours of community service within
the past 12 months.
In 2000, the Coca-Cola Two-Year Colleges Scholarship Program was created through
a grant from the Joseph B. Whitehead Foundation. Whitehead was among the original
bottlers of Coca-Cola.
As if majoring in three areas network support specialist, network administration
and information technology security associatedidnt keep him busy
enough, this energetic student held three part-time jobs this spring but continued
to maintain his 3.5 grade point average.
The Robstown resident serves as president of the Colleges chapter of ABG
and is also a member of the international honor society, Phi Theta Kappa, the
Marketing Club and the Science, Engineering and Math Majors Organization. Among
his many credits, Nauer received the Professor Steve Graham Memorial Award,
two certificates for leadership, a Medallion for Excellence and a $200 stipend
during the ABG international conference.
Nauer remains dedicated to his church and community as a ten-year alter server,
choir member and Eagle Scout. As a student leader, Nauer has inspired more students
to get involved with the Junior Achievement Program with nearly 350 students
from Del Mar College and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi giving four
to five hours to teach kindergartners to high school students.
Among his honors and scholarships, Nauer was listed on the 2003 DMC Deans
List and the National Deans List as well as received STARS and National
Science Foundation Scholarships. He is a member of the National Scholars Honors
Society and was listed in Whos Who Among Students In American Junior Colleges
in 2004.
