DEL MAR COLLEGES SUMMER 2005 KIDS' STUFF SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED
From swimming to singing to academic enrichment, Del Mar College offers kids
plenty of summer activities
Do you ever get tired of your kids summer-long question, What is there
to do? What about their saying, Im bored. Del Mar College
has the answer with its College for Kids Program, summer music camps,
aquatics program and Prefreshman Engineering Program. Young students can have
fun while continuing their education during the summer months. Activities include:
June 1 through July 27 Corpus Christi Prefreshman Engineering Program
for 7th, 8th and 9th Graders, noon to 5 p.m., Del Mar College East Campus,
Ayers and Baldwin, free of charge. For young geniuses wanting to
spend more time in the classroom during their summer vacation, the Corpus Christi
Prefreshman Engineering Program at Del Mar College will give these dedicated youth
the opportunity to solve mathematical problems, design engineering wonders, and
learn about computer operating systems and languages. The eight-week camp targets
youth interested in pursuing studies in engineering, science, technology and mathematics
when they attend college. Del Mar College is the local site for TexPREP. Activities
include class work, field trips, guest speakers and special events like bottle
rocket, egg drop, and bridge and airplane building contests. Eligibility requirements

June 6 Youth Aquatics Session I Swimming Lessons begin for elementary
and middle school students. Two lesson times are available, 4:30 p.m. and
5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday through June 23 in the Del Mar College Natatorium
in the Gymnasium on the East Campus, Baldwin Blvd. Session II begins June 27.
Tuition is $40 for 12 forty-five minute lessons and must be paid at time of registration.
Registration underway in the Center for Workforce, Economic and Community Developments
Multiservice Center, 3013 Ayers. Youth must be age six by August 1, 2005, to qualify
for the program. Individuals are required to register their youth in person as
well as present a birth certificate and Social Security card at that time. Call

June 6 College for Kids classes begin. College for Kids provides
a fun opportunity for students in grades 6 through 12 to explore new academic
areas, upgrade basic skills, create special interests, meet new friends and participate
in a structured, informative, non-pressured academic environment. As the Colleges
youngest students, College for Kids participants can explore algebra or geometry,
take sign language or conversational Spanish, work on their creative writing or
calligraphy or stir their creative juices through drama, basic drawing and journalism,
among many other topics. Classes meet on the Del Mar College East Campus Monday
through Thursday, 1-5 p.m., through June 30. Tuition is $200. Registration underway

June 20-24 Del Mar College Summer String Orchestra Program, in conjunction
with the Corpus Christi Chamber Orchestra at Del Mar College, provides string
students with the experience of playing a variety of music to strengthen their
technical skills. More experienced students will play music that challenges their
current musicianship. Additionally, this years camp will offer elementary
and middle school orchestras. Early registration runs through June 10 with a $45
tuition rate. Late registration is $50 and is scheduled 8:30-9 a.m. on Monday,
June 20, in the Patio Room of the Fine Arts Center Music Building, East Campus,
Ayers at Kosar. For further information, call the Music Office at 698-1214.

July 5 - 8 Del Mar College All-State Choir Camp - The Place to Be!
Students entering grades 9 through 12 will receive instruction from clinicians
Jing Ling-Tam and Ronnie Sanders as well as outstanding collegiate staff and high
school directors. This years camp promises to be exciting, instructive and
fun. Activities include daily choral rehearsals, sectionals, instruction in sight
singing and group vocal techniques. The camp will also include breakout sessions
that cover conducting, composition, music theory as well as Master Voice classes
and diction lessons. Camp highlights include a beach party, talent show and movie
night. A concert and recording session will culminate this intensive week of music
study. Music includes selections from the 2005-2006 audition music for the Texas
Music Educators Association (TMEA) District and Regional Choirs. Formal choir
camp activities, including rehearsals and classes, are scheduled from 8:30 a.m.
until 5:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Music Building, located at Ayers and Kosar, on
the Del Mar College East Campus. Registration is $125.00. Lunch and dinner are
included, and overnight accommodations are available. To register or for more

July 18-22 Del Mar College Band Camp for students entering grades
7 through 12. The one-week camp provides students with an opportunity to
enjoy music making with encouragement from teams of leading music educators
from South Texas. Rehearsals and camp activities are scheduled 9:30 a.m. until
3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday in the Fine Arts Center Music Building on
the Colleges East Campus, Ayers at Kosar. All students will perform a
free concert for family, friends and the public on Friday, July 22, at 7:30
p.m. in the Sinton High School Auditorium. Tuition for the camp is $100 for
individuals who preregister before or on July 8. Regular registration is $125
after July 8. Auditions are July 16 from 9 a.m. until noon and in-person registration
is also that day in the Patio Room of the Music Building. Tuition covers a daily
lunch Monday through Thursday and a light evening meal on Friday in the Sinton
High School cafeteria after the rehearsal for the evening performance on Friday,
July 22. Students will receive a compact disc recording of the final camp concert
