Department of Music Forming Gulf Coast Master Chorus
Auditions being held throughout August for interested sopranos, altos, tenors
and basses
Del Mar Colleges Department of Music announces the formation of a new
choral ensemblethe Gulf Coast Master Chorus. The department invites sopranos,
altos, tenors and basses, who love singing, to show-off their talents during
auditions scheduled for Aug. 9, 20 and 27.
The purpose of forming this group is to provide community members an opportunity
to perform major choral works with instrumental ensembles, says Dr. Andy
Wen, chair of the Colleges Department of Music. We also want to
introduce new and traditional repertoire within an array of concert themes.
Former Corpus Christi Chorale members do not need to audition for the new ensemble.
However, the department asks that new singers schedule an audition/interview
for one of the following dates and times:
Tuesday, Aug. 9, 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 20, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 27, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Starting Aug. 16, the Gulf Coast Master Chorus will meet Tuesday nights at 7:30
p.m. in the choir room (Room 149) of the Fine Arts Center Music Building, East
Campus, Ayers at Kosar. Rehearsals and performances will continue through April
2006. The department will announce a schedule of performances at a later date.
Dennis Richardson, the current choral director at Sinton High School, will serve
as the interim conductor and artistic director. Richardson served as the choir
director at Carroll High School and at Texas A & M University-Kingsville
prior to teaching in Sinton. His previous positions include work at Southwest
Texas State University and Texas Tech University. Richardson also served as
music director for TEXAS, the outdoor drama produced in the Palo
Duro Canyon. Additionally, he has prepared and conducted community choruses
in Lubbock, Victoria, and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
