FYI: For some potential students, stepping foot on a college campus for
the first time can be a scary experience. They may ask themselves, Where
do I go? or What am I suppose to do now? when they search for answers
for a smooth transition to college life.
Before each semester, Del Mar Colleges Division of Student Development
offers prospective first-time college students an opportunity to get answers
to their questions during a New Student Orientation. The orientation
provides a series of sessions that cover numerous topics that concern new students.
They also take a tour of the East Campus to familiarize themselves with the
layout while meeting other students and college advisors.
We want our students to feel at ease as they begin their education here
at Del Mar, says Homer Ramos, director of Student Activities. New
Student Orientation provides students an opportunity to become familiar with
Del Mars policies as well as student resources available for a successful
College experience.
After brief welcomes from the College president and students, participants will
break out into groups and attend various informational sessions covering classroom
etiquette, advising and counseling, choosing the right major, special services,
grade reports, financial aid, tips for getting great grades and meaningful extracurricular
involvement, among other issues students face in higher education.
But what if new student cant attend the orientation?
