Colleges TACHE Chapter Announces Scholarship Allocations Totaling $4,800
Efforts of membership assisting four DMC students with educational costs
during next academic year
Volunteerism is a key word among Del Mar College administrators,
faculty and staff who are members of the institutions chapter of the Texas
Association of Chicanos in Higher Education. Throughout the year, dedicated
DMC employees conduct fundraising activitiessuch as bailes, barbecues
and other eventsto provide scholarships to students needing assistance
in paying for their college education.
TACHEs efforts have paid off for four Del Mar students. The chapter awarded
to each student $1,200, which includes both the fall 2005 and spring 2006 semesters.
The chapter will recognize the students during the annual luncheon the chapter
holds for the DMC Board of Regents, scheduled for July 27.
Those students include:
Rebecca Cavazos, a psychology major, who earned her GED (General Education
Development) certificate with highest honors in Fall 2004 after being out of
school for 15 years. Cavazos completed nine semester hours of credit classes
with a 4.0 GPA this past spring.
Jaime Garcia, a criminal justice major, who has completed 36 hours with
a 3.71 GPA. He is a 2003 graduate of Miller High School.
Mary A. Medina, a pre registered nurse education major, who
has completed 61 hours with a 3.84 GPA. The 1986 graduate of Miller High School
is a member of international honor society, Phi Theta Kappa, and the single-head
of her household.
Debra Ann Rodriguez, a criminal justice major, who has completed 66 hours
with a 3.14 GPA. Rodriguez has been listed on the National Dean's List and was
very active in NJROTC before graduating from Miller High School in 2002.
Of the recipients, Mike Anzaldúa, current TACHE president at Del Mar
College, says, Were happy to have these four scholarship recipients
join the ranks of so many other fine students with high GPAs and serious financial
need who have received TACHE scholarships in the past. We strongly believe that
their academic success will continue and that they will become valuable, contributing
members of society.
