Former Students’ Association Chooses Professor and Three Local Financial Administrators As Newest Inductees into College’s Wall of Honor
April 16 gala and dinner to honor four individuals for their achievements and impact on community

Since 1995, the Del Mar College Former Students’ Association has paid tribute to the distinguished achievements and services of 51 former students by inducting them into the Wall of Honor. These individuals have made their mark in such fields as the arts, business, health care, law enforcement, politics, religion and education.

This year, four more former students will join the celebrated list during an honorary gala and dinner on Saturday, April 16. This year’s inductees include Mike Anzaldúa, English professor at Del Mar College; Michael Harrison, president of the Bank of America; Yolanda Olivarez, senior vice president of Business Development at Wells Fargo Bank; and Gina Prince, president of the Coastal Community And Teachers Credit Union.

The 2005 Del Mar College Wall of Honor Gala and Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Retama Room, second floor, Harvin Student Center, Del Mar College East Campus, Ayers and Baldwin. Tickets are $25 per person or $200 for tables of eight and are available through April 7. Donations are welcome. Eddie Galvan will provide entertainment during the event. Anzaldúa received an associate degree in English from Del Mar College before earning his bachelor’s degree in 1968 and master’s degree in 1974 from East Texas State University. He joined Del Mar’s faculty as a teaching assistant in 1969. Since then, the educator has carried out several roles beyond instructing English in the classroom, including serving as assistant director of the East Campus Writing Center, chair of the Department of English and Philosophy and director of the College’s Title V Learning Communities Program. Among his numerous honors and awards, he received a Teaching Award from the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement, the Dr. Aileen Creighton Award for Teaching Excellence from Del Mar College and the Western Regional Faculty Member Award from the Association of Community College Trustees.

Harrison graduated from Corpus Christi Academy and attended DMC from 1965 to 1967. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in marketing from Texas A&I University in Kingsville in 1969. Since 1970, Harrison made banking his career with Corpus Christi National Bank, Commonwealth Savings and Bank of America (formerly NationsBank). He has served on numerous boards and is currently a director on the Board of the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce as well as a divisional chairman for the Palmer Drug Abuse Program.

Olivarez has served in the banking industry over 30 years. Currently a senior vice president at Wells Fargo Bank, Olivarez also serves on the Port of Corpus Christi Authority Commission. In January 2001, Olivarez was the first woman elected as chairman of the Port of Corpus Christi Authority. She also serves on the Del Mar College Foundation Board of Trustees and is treasurer for the Corpus Christi Community Development Corporation. Among Olivarez’s numerous community accomplishments, she was recently a recipient of the Y Women in Careers Award, which is presented annually by the local YWCA.

Prince graduated from Mary Carroll High School and received an associate’s degree from Del Mar College in 1983. She earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1993 and a master of accounting degree in 1999 from Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi. In March 2004, the Board of Directors of Coastal Community and Teachers Credit Union announced her promotion to president of the Credit Union, where she officially took over in July 2004.
