The following information will assist you in applying for the Nuclear Medicine Technology Program. Please follow the instructions.
IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO PROVIDE THE PROGRAM
WITH THE PROPER PAPERWORK AT THE PROPER TIME!
- You must be eligible and applied for Admission to Del Mar College.
- You must be 18 years of age or older.
- You must supply the Registrar's Office with official copies of college transcripts.
- You must also supply the Nuclear Medicine Technology Program office with copies of official transcripts.
- You must have completed a Nuclear Medicine Technology Program Application.
- You must complete a 4 hour hospital site visit and document in N.M.T. Application packet
- You must have completed any remediation required as a result of placement testing.
- If applicable, copies of degrees, certificates, or registries in the health field.
- You must earn sufficient admission points to be selected for admissions. The procedure for receiving admissions points is described in the Admission Process page
- You must be able to fully participate in all clinical activities in such a way as to not pose a risk to the safety of the patient or clinical personnel.
- The deadline for accepting applications is March 1st of each year.
You will receive written notification upon acceptance to the program. Students are required to provide their own transportation to clinical sites, Caribbean-blue colored scrubs and full length lab coat. Students are expected to travel to out of area clinical sites all of which are within 60 mile radius of the college.
If admitted into the program, a Background Check and Drug Testing is required as mandated by our accrediting agency and clinical affiliates. A physical exam with shot record, TB skin test, and current CPR card must be submitted prior to the first day of class. These requirements are at the expense of the accepted student.

ADMISSIONS PROCESS
- The applicant must first complete and submit a Nuclear Medicine Technology application portfolio which includes each of the following items:
- Signed Criteria for Admissions Verification Form (last page of application packet)
- Signed Nuclear Medicine Application form (2nd to last page of application packet)
- Signed Hospital Site Visit form (3rd to last page of application packet)
- Copies of all college transcripts (available from Registrar's office)
- Copies of THEA or COMPASS scores as required for A.A.S degree.
This completed application portfolio must be submitted to the Department of Dental & Imaging office (HS2 130) no later than March 1st for consideration for admission for the upcoming fall semester.
Any portfolio submitted after this deadline will automatically be considered for admission into the fall semester of the next calendar year. - During June of each year, the Nuclear Medicine Technology Program Director will review all
applicants that have submitted complete portfolios since March 1st of the previous year. In the review
process, points are earned by each applicant and totaled. The applicants with the highest total points
will be recommended for admissions into the program.
Points are earned by the following:
- Completion of Nuclear Medicine Technology General Education required courses as listed in
CURRICULUM section of this web page. Prerequisite courses completed will have a points value assigned
based on the grade attained.
Each "A" earns 10 points Each "B" earns 6 points Each "C" earns 2 points Each "D" earns 0 points - The applicant's cumulative grade point average to date will have a points value assigned to it.
3.5 - 4.0 = 5 points 3.0 - 3.49 = 4 points 2.5 - 2.99 = 3 points 2.0 - 2.49 = 2 points - Completion of all prerequisite and related course work earns 10 points total (see CURRICULUM for related course work)
- Honors recognition in high school or college earns an extra 5 points. (Documentation of honors
recognition is required)
- Completion of Nuclear Medicine Technology General Education required courses as listed in
CURRICULUM section of this web page. Prerequisite courses completed will have a points value assigned
based on the grade attained.
- The Nuclear Medicine Admissions Committee will meet during June of each year to review and select
the new class for each fall semester. A letter will be sent to the applicant with the Committee's
decision on whether or not they were admitted.
If the applicant is not accepted into the program, he or she will be advised to reapply for the next year's class by October 31st. The reapplication must be made in writing to the program director and must be postmarked before the deadline. Following October 31st, all remaining portfolios of applicants not requesting reapplication will be discarded. - If one of the applicants selected for the new class cannot begin the program at the start of the
fall semester, he/she will forfeit their position in the class and will be required to follow the
process for re-application if they wish to be considered for the next fall class.
In such a case, the applicant with the next highest points total will be admitted into the class. Each person in the applicant pool will be moved forward accordingly. This process will be repeated if such instances continue to arise. - All applicants who meet the criteria will receive a conditional acceptance. This conditional status is pending criminal background and drug testing.
