Welcome to the DMC Geology web site!
The Geology Program at Del Mar College provides the introductory courses, Physical Geology and Earth History, required for a baccalaureate degree in Geology. Students pursuing degrees from any other disciplines often elect to take Geology to fulfill their science requirements. These courses also provide a foundation for environmental science and civil and petroleum engineering degrees. The Department offers an AS Degree in Geology. This Degree is accepted at Colleges and Universities that lead toward a BS Degree in Geology. Geology also provides an excellent choice for satisfying science requirements in most other DMC AA programs.
Course and laboratory work introduces students to the study of the Earth's composition, structure, natural processes, and history, including the history of life as determined by the fossil record. Experienced professional geologists/educators conduct both classroom and field study (including an overnight field trip), and emphasize geologic processes and environmental concerns of south Texas. Current geologic theories and investigations are examined using recent articles from the scientific literature and important Web sites. Students also learn valuable critical-thinking, communication, and teamwork skills.
We invite you to explore our web site for information on our curriculum, faculty, local geology, etc.
