The opportunity to work in exotic localities, in the mountains or plains or beaches of the world is a powerful lure to enter this study. Geology is an integrated science that encompasses all of the other sciences within it. Geophysics, geochemistry, planetary geology and paleontology are some areas of specialization that could require solid grounding in disciplines such as physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer science and biology, etc.
Geology also encompasses most aspects of environmental science, including contentious topics such as pollution, global warming, rising sea levels, beach erosion and extinction. As our political issues are raised, a solid foundation in these areas allow geology students to become better citizens of our planet.
