Course Levels

ESOL courses at Del Mar College are divided into three different sections. Please note that the classes are listed in the order of increasing difficulty.

Course Descriptions

Intensive English Courses

Intermediate courses

ESOL 0321 - Intermediate Reading
ESOL 0322 - Intermediate Vocabulary, Pronunciation, & Writing
ESOL 0323 - Intermediate Grammar
ESOL 0324 - Intermediate Conversation

Advanced courses

ESOL 0341 - Advanced Reading
ESOL 0342 - Advanced Composition
ESOL 0343 - Advanced Grammar
ESOL 0344 - Advanced Conversation

Developmental Courses

ESOL 0305 (Basic Writing and Mechanics I) and ESOL 0306 (Basic Writing and Mechanics II) are equivalent to ENGL 0305 and 0306 courses and are available to students who score 70 or above on a CELT (Comprehensive English Language Test) or receive a 1 on the English section of the TSI exam.

INRW 0408 (Integrated Reading and Writing Improvement) is available to students who score a 2 on the English section and a 2 on the Reading section of the TSI exam or who have successfully completed ESOL 0305/0306 and Reading 0305.

College Level Courses

Two credit English courses designed for international students are also available.

ENGL 1301 (Freshman Composition I) for International Students carries the same college credit as other ENGL 1301 classes and is available to students who have an English score of 3 and a Reading score of 3.

ENGL 1302 (Freshman Composition II) for International Students carries the same college credit of other ENGL 1302 classes and is available to students who successfully complete ENGL 1301.
