Is your back stiff like Frankenstein or do you have
the posture of Igor? In observance of National Physical Therapy Month,
students with Del Mar College's Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA)
Program will hold an "Exercise Your Options with Physical Therapy"
Health Fair on Thursday, Oct. 30, to inform participants about ways
to relieve those frightfully stiff conditions.
The free fair runs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Room 102,
Flato Technologies Building, Del Mar College West Campus, Boaz Blvd.
off Airport Road. Start Halloween off with a few good howls from physical
therapy, along with some tasty treats for parents and kids. For more
information, call the College’s Physical Therapist Assistant
Program at 698-1847.
During the health fair, 10 PTA students will guide participants
through activities that will leave them more flexible and with improved
posture. Organizers will also share health tips about body composition,
flexibility and cardiovascular conditioning in addition to running
a wheelchair obstacle course to build better awareness of challenges
that individuals with disabilities face.
According to the American Physical Therapy Association
(APTA), more than 120,000 licensed physical therapists provide services
across the country today. These individuals provide treatment to prevent
the onset or slow down the progression of conditions resulting from
injury, disease and other causes. Low back pain is just one of many
reasons people seek relief from a physical therapist. Other conditions
can range from neck pain and shoulder, arm, wrist or hand problems
to more serious conditions related to chronic respiratory problems,
stroke, and prenatal and postpartum conditions, among other causes.
Del Mar's PTA health fair follows the national
theme "Exercise You Options with Physical Therapy," which
reflects APTA's goal to educate the public about how they can improve
their lives by exercising their with physical therapy for better health.
