Curricula & Course Descriptions

The curricula of the Emergency Medical Services Professions program at Del Mar College is based on the National Standard Curriculum developed by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration—Department of Transportation in accordance with all rules promulgated by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
The National Standard Curriculum recommends that a Paramedic program should encompass no less than 1,000 clock hours and 1,200 clock hours optimally.
The Emergency Medical Services Professions program offers the following certificates and degrees:
Marketable Skills Achievement Award: Emergency Medical Technician—Basic
Certificate: Emergency Medical Technician—Intermediate
Certificate: Emergency Medical Technician—Paramedic
Associate in Applied Science Degree: Emergency Medical Technician—Paramedic

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) has developed common course descriptions to be used by all EMSP programs. These course descriptions are updated regularly to ensure that changes in the EMS field are reflected in education. These course descriptions are published by the THECB in the Workforce Education Course Manual (WECM).
