Basic preparation for a new peace officer taken in conjunction with Basic peace Officer II, III and IV to satisfy the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCLEOSE) approved Basic Peace Officer Training Academy. Prerequisite: approval of department advisor. Assessment Levels R2, E2, M1.

THE NEW SUPERVISOR’S COURSE
COURSE NUMBER: 3737

This course (minimum of 20 hours) is intended to provide the new supervisor with information about being a leader, manager, and counselor. Topics covered are values and ethics; leadership characteristics and traits; counseling techniques, planning, and special investigative issues and changes to the various laws and commission rules.

The design of the course includes several hours of practical scenarios and discussions on leadership, management, counseling, and planning. There is a written examination at the conclusion of the course.

Attendees need to bring paper and pencils, and copies of Texas Traffic Laws and Texas Criminal Laws handbooks. Attendees will not receive a certificate if they are absent for more than 10% of the course.
