Anti-Terrorism and Force Protection

The Regional Police Academy offers an eight-hour in-service training course for police officers on "Anti-terrorism and Bomb Threats."  The first half of the course discusses terrorism while the second half of the course discusses bombs and bomb threats.  Additional, longer, courses are currently being considered.

A short non-credit course, titled "Introduction to Terrorism", will soon be available for the general public.  This course is designed to inform the public of general terrorist threats, methods of terrorism, along with local and worldwide current events.  Ideas for public involvement and assistance will be discussed.

The third area that the Academy is actively involved in relates to training for the United States Navy.  Three Force Protection courses are taught by the Academy and these courses are restricted to Naval personnel.  Sailors interested in this training should contact their command or local training authority.  Courses offered include:

Armed Sentry Course (ASC)
Course graduates will be able to perform specialized duties to protect their unit and its personnel.  Students learn to deter, identify, track, and assess potential threats, implement immediate actions, and protect Department of Navy assets and personnel by utilizing proper force protection procedures and watch standing techniques.

Force Protection Fundamental Training (FPFT)
Course graduates will be able to perform specialized duties to protect their unit, its mission and its crew members whether pier side, at sea, or at a naval air facility from acts of terrorism or sabotage. Team members will learn to prevent the threat whether from the pier, small boat, or any other means from penetrating their unit, by utilizing proper force protection procedures and tactical team movements.

Shipboard Security Engagement Weapons (SSEW)
Course graduates will be able to perform specialized duties to protect their ship and its crew members.  SSEW training shall include training in the knowledge and skills in the use of shipboard provided handguns, shoulder weapons and support weapons and provides basic information in the operation, maintenance and firing of small arms in support of Maritime Interdiction Operations (MIO).  Course includes weapons safety; range safety and range firing procedures; operation, maintenance, and firing of the 9 mm,  M-14 or M-16 rifle, and 12 gauge shotgun.  Students will be placed in stress and combat shooting situations and will be required to complete a comprehensive final practical shooting exercise.
