Basic Peace Officer (full-time)
The Basic Peace Officer program is 576 hours long and it is offered three times a year. Academies generally begin in early January, late April and mid August. Cadets graduate four months after the academy's beginning date. Classes are held Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Special entrance requirements do exist. To review these requirements and course schedules you should visit the basic training page.

Basic Peace Officer (part-time)
This program is identical to the above course in content. However, rather than being offered full-time, this program is offered on a part-time extended format schedule. Part-time academies are generally offered once a year, or as the need warrants. Cadets graduate approximately seven months after the academy's beginning date. Classes are held in the evenings and sometimes a few Saturdays are necessary to complete all of the required training hours. Special entrance requirements do exist. To review these requirements and course schedules you should visit the basic training page.

Reserve Officer
Intermediate and Advanced Reserve Officer classes are offered as the need warrants. Classes may begin in January, April or August. These classes are generally held in the evenings or weekends. Anyone interested in these classes should contact the Academy for dates and admission requirements.

Basic Telecommunicator and Basic Jail
The basic telecommunicator is a one week course (40 hour) that is held from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This is the TCLEOSE course that is required to maintain employment in this field. This course is open to the public. The basic jail course is a two week (80 hour) course that is held from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This is the TCLEOSE course that leads to licensure as a jailer. Special requirements do exist for the jail course. To review course schedules you should visit the basic training page.

In-Service Training
In-service training courses are offered for licensed peace officers, dispatchers and jailers. Some courses are open to the public. All courses offered by the Academy enable officers to meet the TCLEOSE in-service training requirements. Also, these courses provide an opportunity to obtain training in specialized areas. Enrollment in these courses does not require formal admission to the college. Officers attending core curriculum training courses may be eligible for TCLEOSE Intermediate and Advanced certifications. You may visit the in-service page to see what courses are available.

Service Area
The Academy is responsible for providing training to officers in Aransas, Refugio, Bee, San Patricio, Nueces, Kleberg, Kenedy, Brooks, Duval, Jim Wells, Live Oak, and McMullen Counties. However, officers and students from other areas are always welcome.
