Leadership Training Course
PAID SUMMER LEADERSHIP INTERNSHIP FOR SOPHOMORES
The Del Mar College Military Science Department and the U.S. Army are offering an all expenses paid Leadership Training Course at Ft. Knox, Kentucky.
COURSE TOPICS, BENEFITS AND OPPORTUNITIES
- Hands-on leadership training, not available in the classroom.
- Learn decision-making processes and the importance of timely decision making.
- Develop self-confidence and team building skills.
- Experience the Leadership Reaction Course.
- Excellent physical conditioning.
- Participate in adventure training including marksmanship, rappelling, land navigation and more.
- Earn up to 15 credit hours.
- Earn about $700.
- All expenses paid including round trip transportation, meals and lodging.
- All qualified participants who pass the course will be offered a 2-year (tuition, fees and $600/yr. book allowance) scholarship and a monthly stipend ($350 for the 1st year and $400 for the 2nd year).
WHO'S ELIGIBLE?
- Students between sophomore and junior year.
- Have a minimum of 54 credit hours and a minimum 2.0 GPA (if competing for scholarship, minimum 2.5 GPA).
- Be between 18 and 25 years of age.
- U.S. Citizens.
- No major civil convictions.
- Be physically qualified by medical doctor (no expense to the student).
- Must achieve a passing score of 60 pts. in each event of the Army Physical Fitness Test. (Events are push-ups, sit-ups and 2 mile run).
WHAT IS LEADER'S TRAINING COURSE?
It's the means to learn leadership skills, traits and competence to be successful in any world of business, politics and/or the military. Without competence in your leadership you will not be able to handle tough, stressful, challenging situations.
The best leaders are capable of handling themselves in any environment under any conditions. By being physically and mentally fit to make decisions, to solve problems and communicate those ideas to others so they will follow and act. They have the character to demonstrate the value for integrity, hard work and courage in all they do regardless of the condition or environment.
The Leader's Training Course is specifically designed to bring out your leadership potential, while simultaneously presenting you to a combination of mental and physical challenges at the same time teach you very special skills. It's adventurous, exciting and it's full of fun.
You will have the opportunity to meet many other college students and establish some valuable and potential lifelong friendships, not to mention lifelong memories. All this will happen in amazingly short time of 28 days.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO BE DOING!
The Leader's Training Course is conducted for 28 days during the summer at Fort Knox, Kentucky and it consists of 3 phases - "Future Leader", "Bold Leader" and "Discover Gold".
During the 1st phase, you will rappel; participate in a leadership reaction course, Learn water survival and stream crossing techniques, first aid, weapons and how to navigate on land using a map and compass during day and night. You will be challenged physically throughout this entire phase. You will learn to lead and when and how to follow.
During the 2nd phase, you will learn small unit tactics. You will go through a self-confidence building obstacle course, rock climbing, paintball and the Tarzan assault course. With your newly established confidence in water survival you will participate in small boat or raft operations. Additionally, this phase highlights the importance of teamwork and a balanced lifestyle of work and recreation.
Finally, during the 3rd phase, you will participate in some very entertaining social events, a family day and the culmination of the course - the graduation ceremony.
