All individuals aspiring to become a Respiratory Therapist must complete their education at a school accredited by the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care. A list of accredited schools can be found on the CoARC or NBRC web pages. All individuals pursuing credentialing from the National Board for Respiratory Care must have earned an A.A.S. Degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited school.

Students learn to perform the basic and advanced life support skills needed to treat adult and pediatric patients experiencing cardiopulmonary failure. Students learn to function as a member of the code team during a cardiac arrest as well as the contemporary strategies used during cardiopulmonary resuscitation. |
| Students learn to perform the respiratory care procedures used to treat adult and pediatric patients with lung disease. Students learn the theoretical applications for therapeutic procedures and acquire the cognitive knowledge needed to educate clients about their disease management. | ![]() |

Students learn to perform specialized diagnostic tests used in pulmonary medicine. Some of the tests include arterial puncture and blood gas analysis, pulmonary function testing, fiberoptic bronchoscopy, pneumogram, sleep study, and 12 lead electrocardiogram. |
| Students learn to set-up and operate mechanical ventilators for adult and pediatric patients. Ventilators are machines, used in the hospital and home setting, to breath for individuals that have lost their ability. | ![]() |
