Discussion of Questionnaires: Chair Jim Pierce distributed to the committee draft copies of the five survey questionnaires that will be distributed in early September to gather information for the Self-Study Report. Most of the meeting was devoted to reviewing and discussing the questionnaires and a number of minor changes were made. Pierce and John M. Crisp will meet with Carol Larue on August 18 to implement the changes, and the drafts will be given to the principal committee chairs on August 20 for review.

Survey Schedule: The committee discussed the timing for the distribution of the questionnaires and produced the following schedule:

• Faculty: The Faculty Survey will be distributed by departmental chairs and supervisors on August 25 at departmental meetings. The responses will be due back by September 8 and will be turned in to the office of the chair or sent to the Self-Study Office, Room 533 of the White Library.

• APT and Clerical and Support Staff: Both of these surveys will be mailed to individuals by August 25 and responses will be returned to the Self-Study Office by September 8.

• Regents: The Regents Survey will be given to the Regents at their September 8 meeting and responses will be returned by September 22.

• Students: The Student Survey will be distributed to a random sampling of about 30 classes at a limited number of meeting times in order to avoid duplicate responses. Instructors will be given a range of class days during which the surveys may be administered.

Other Discussion: Pierce reminded committee members that while the survey results should provide valuable information for the principal committees' reports, the results should not be seen as the only, or most important, source of information. Dolores Huerta, liaison to the Financial Resources Committee, brought two more questions from the committee for consideration; after discussion the Steering Committee agreed that questions would work better as interview questions rather than survey questions. Finally Pierce announced a meeting of the principal committee chairs for Thursday, August 20, at 1:00 p.m. in the Bluebonnet Room, Harvin Center.
