SELF-STUDY STEERING COMMITTEE
February 17, 1999, 1:30--3:30 p.m., VB-170

Attending: John M. Crisp, Mike Gadell, Homer Garza, Dolores Huerta, Mattie Marcum, William Mareth, Vickie Natale, Mary Peña, Jim Pierce (Chair), Lisa Welch.

Not Attending: Noe Guerra.

Principal Committee Reports: Chair Jim Pierce reported that three principal committee initial drafts had not yet been turned in, but that Computer Resources and Services was to turn in its draft today (February 17) and Faculty on the 19th. The status of the Educational Support Services draft is uncertain and liaison Noe Guerra was not available to report.

Other Discussion: Pierce reported that he had been in email contact with DMC's SACS liaison John Dwyer, who said that SACS had tentatively scheduled DMC'S visit for March 6-9, 2000. Dwyer said also that SACS had tentatively chosen a chair for the visiting committee and that the chair's name would be sent to Dr. Dicianna in approximately a week. Pierce said that DMC was to contact the chair about six months before the visit and that the chair will make a preliminary visit approximately a month before the team's visit.

Pierce said that the Educational Program subcommittee had met on February 11 and would meet again on February 19. He said that the subcommittee will be developing interim reports as it moves through the Educational Program draft and that the reports will be posted online. He said that the Educational Program committee is making revisions as the subcommittee reviews the draft.

Pierce reviewed the calendar: The subcommittees will report to the Steering Committee according to the following schedule:

All meetings will be in VB-170, unless otherwise scheduled. Wednesday meetings will be from 1:30--3:30 p.m.; Thursday meetings will be from 3:00--5:00 p.m.

Special Educational Activities Subcommittee Report: The Special Educational Activities Subcommittee (John M. Crisp, Mike Gadell, Mary Peña) submitted for discussion their report on their review of the Special Educational Activities draft. The report will be completed and submitted to the Special Educational Activities principal committee within three working days. The Subcommittee Report

Next Meeting: The next meeting of the Steering Committee will be held in VB-170 on Thursday, February 18, 1999 at 3:00 p.m.
