Faculty: Manuel Flores, chair of the Faculty principal committee, presented an overview of his committee's work and reviewed some of the recommendations and suggestions in his committee's draft, highlighting six critical areas. In the course of subsequent discussion Vickie Natale raised a question about the recommendation regarding the credentialing form, pointing out that, to her knowledge, the only forms in existence are the current form and the older form, which has been superseded by the current form. Flores said that the administration will need to decide how to treat the issue in the Addendum. John M. Crisp pointed out the occasional confusion in the draft regarding the way the findings are stated: Each "must" and "should" statement should have a finding of "Compliance" or "Noncompliance"; "must" statements will call for a "Recommendation"; "should" statements will call for a "Suggestion." Findings of "Noncompliance" may include also suggestions, as well as, in the case of "must" statements, recommendations. Additionally, in some cases a finding might be "Compliance with Suggestion."
Computer Resources and Services: John Mastenbrook, chair of the Information Technology Resources and Systems principal committee, presented an overview of his committee's work, including a discussion of the draft's "must" and "should" statements and, in particular, the draft's suggestion that the College develop a technology "help desk" and hire a technology trainer. Pierce noted several places in the draft where the committee findings might be regularized.
Next Meetings: The Steering Committee will meet on Monday, June 21, at 1:00 p.m. (a change from the ordinary meeting time) in VB-170. The Committee will discuss the Educational Program draft. Pierce reminded the Committee to concentrate on major issues and problems rather than proofreading and other surface issues. On Wednesday, June 23, the Committee will meet in VB-170 at 1:30 p.m. for the open forum rehearsals for Educational Support Services and Educational Program.
