Question 4: Please list any long-term safety hazards or maintenance problems on Del Mar campuses which you have observed. Please be very specific.
  • I have not seen any.
  • The construction around the campus is very irritating and time-keeping. Bad time to start construction. It should have been started at the end of last spring semester and finished at the end of summer.
  • Not much security in parking lot.
  • Only all the construction, but that is necessary.
  • Sometimes the desks in the rooms are dirty with chips or other food for days.
  • Construction is not very safe at all. Dust and dirt is horrible. Machinery could cause injury. Construction areas are unsafe: uneven roadways, sidewalks, dirt and mud.
  • People smoking at the entrances of all the doors leading into the building. There is nothing worse than that stench at the door ways!!!!!
  • There is a lot of construction going on.
  • Parking lots. Ruined several pairs of shoes walking through mud to avoid construction.
  • Parking and construction.
  • The only safety hazard is all the construction being done is very inconvenient and should have been done during the summer when less students attend.

  • The construction can be dangerous for everyone.
  • Men's restroom a/c leaks over sinks.
  • Don't cut the grass enough. The mosquitos are very bad.

  • There are none that I have seen.
  • Every time I come into Science building, the building is so old and I don't know when the last time the air ducts have been cleaned and I start sneezing, runny nose, etc.
  • There are a lot of potholes on the campus streets, around library and Harvin Center.
  • This construction going on is taking way too long. Parking is awful and it is such a mess.
  • Not enough parking.
  • Parking.
  • Del Mar is a safe campus.
  • There are none.
  • The only maintenance problem is the parking problem.
  • None that I have seen.
  • Lighting at night. Need more street lights.
  • The parking space, there isn't enough.
  • Parking is not adequate.
  • I believe parking is an important issue to look at; this would really enhance the situation.
  • Classrooms are too cold.
  • The classrooms are way too cold. Very difficult to concentrate when your hands go numb.
  • I observed the parking is an inadequate area.
  • The construction. Limits parking and it is very noisy.
  • The elevators are horrible.
  • Construction--awful. There is rebar all over campus. Someone could get hurt. Nails on the campus, not just in the site areas, and not enough clean-up on the construction workers.
  • Construction at the College.
  • The area behind the Maintenance building, in front of the tennis courts, needs more light.
  • Parking construction.
  • Construction.
  • In the Health Science building--the dental hygiene clinic is hazardous due to patient chairs not working.
  • I feel that it would greatly benefit the students to provide more adequate parking as to avoid crowding streets, confusion, unneeded class tardiness and traffic citations.
  • In dental hygiene clinic--many patient chairs have numerous problems, from leaking water to chairs not moving up and/or down properly.
  • One long-term safety hazard is the limited parking available to Del Mar students. Students have to get here an hour or so maybe even earlier to ensure they get a parking space and get to class on time. This provides for a lot of stress on the student and angry drivers seeking a spot. The college desperately needs more parking.
  • Parking.

  • The parking at our campus is getting very hazardous to the students.
  • Parking sucks. My car already had the paint scratched and have dents from other cars parking too close.
  • Parking facilities are one of the few problems. A reconstruction of our parking lots has given students a hard time finding any parking spaces. Not only is parking difficult, but the debris from construction causes safety hazards.
  • Sewage pumping should be done prior to classes beginning or after the majority of students are gone in the afternoon. It's very unhealthy to breathe in.
  • Parking.
  • This could be a book. Parking sucks, the construction sucks. It takes more than 10 minutes to get from the business building to HH, considering the shitty construction.
  • During the summer I took a math class and the air-conditioning kept going out. It's hard staying focused when you are hot.
  • Parking lot.
  • There was a dead cat found between the Business and Art buildings and no cleaner wanted to pick it up.
  • Have not noticed any "long-term" safety hazards on campus.
  • Parking is horrible. What security?
  • Construction, I have to walk on muddy ground which I could easily slip.
  • Construction.
  • Need more security.
  • I have not seen any to date.
  • Due to construction, a lot of boards, walkways, and entrances are obstructed.
  • More lighting at night. More parking so women (like myself) don't have to park far away from the campus late at night.
  • Electrical hazards, bench grinds [?] wired to wall instead of on machine face. Loose wiring from lathes, out dated machines occupying space and left unattended in dispair.
  • There needs to be more security (guards) on campus, mainly during night hours (7:00 - 11:00).
  • Parking.
  • Need more parking spaces.
  • I have none.
  • Construction.
  • None that come to mind or have seen.
  • Some of the sidewalks have large cracks and separations that need to be fixed. The Flato building needs roof repairs, very leaky during rain.

  • Need shuttle buses. Maintenance--good.
  • The parking is terrible and there is mud and water everywhere.
  • Parking problems. Poor drainage.
  • Wet steps on staircases.
  • Construction sites! Muddy by Harvin Center. Need sidewalks by construction not mud trails.

  • All the construction going on is very bothersome.
  • Parking.
  • Floodable streets and parking lots.

  • Construction.
  • The parking lot is horrible and the mud makes it difficult to maneuver.
  • The streets are still in chaos and when it rains it becomes very muddy.
  • Parking, parking, parking!
  • Flooding on Baldwin.
  • Parking lot flooding--Fine Arts especially.
  • Parking is not adequate. Construction is very unsafe.
  • Parking !!!
  • Parking. Safety hazard if not finished soon. People are in a hurry to class and weather permitting if they're lucky they may make it on time.
  • Leaking roofs, construction, howling [?] in math and speech building, more computers in library.
  • Parking spaces is a big problem! The stop-signs on West campus are not visible. Vehicles park in front of them. Parking and lack of security.
  • Just parking.
  • The tile on the stairs at the VB building can get slippery when your shoes are wet.
  • Nothing major.
  • No parking.
  • None that I've seen.
  • Not enough security.
  • Parking-especially at night.
  • The parking is terrible. Not enough space, roads are too narrow, can't see when leaving the parking lot if other cars are coming.
  • Need security at night. The construction that has recently been taking place leaves muddy non-paved walkways.
  • The stupid parking situation is ridiculous. It is important, yes, to fix things, but can't it be done so that our important parking facilities still be used? The blocking off of parking lots and of pathways makes us short on gas, late to class and agitated. And it's not like they'll be done with the construction anytime soon. We need at least a temporary solution.
  • Can't think of any dangers or problems on Del Mar.
  • Bathrooms need to be maintained better because they are very slippery.
  • Just in the parking lot needs to be fixed. Crammed parking can cause accidents.
  • Parking sucks.
  • Parking is absolutely horrible. I've seen three people almost get killed fighting for parking spaces.
  • Parking lot, not enough parking and construction workers take up student parking.
  • The only problem I have is the lack of parking. It is very bad and teachers don't take that into account when you are late because of the lack of parking.
  • The on-going construction.
  • Del Mar has a great staff that take care of the safety hazards.
  • Roads (bumps). Need more parking.
  • There were boards on the sidewalk by the Memorial building. But they are not there anymore.
  • The parking lot, not enough room.
  • None, except the inconvenience of the construction.
  • Parking lots flood too much, cars have been broken into.
  • I have not noticed any yet.
  • Construction site.
  • The mud around the construction site at the Harvin Center.
  • Parking is a big problem! Parking.
  • The campuses are in good shape.
  • I have not noticed any that I am aware of.

  • More parking spaces!
  • Parking.
  • The construction going on in the Harvin Center.
  • Parking but soon to be fixed, other than that fine.
  • Parking is very hazardous. Lack of parking makes for unsafe traffic patterns through out the campus.
  • The construction is progress, has limited parking especially the need for disabled parking.
  • West campus--in automotive shop, the floors sweat and slick and students always fall.
  • Parking, (hello, people), we must park 2 blocks away and get ticket at that!!

  • Only the construction going on.
  • Working on parking lots.
  • All I have noticed is the construction and the hazard it could cause.

  • The construction around the campus is very hazardous because people have to go around it and watch out for the workers.
  • The construction all over campus.
  • Parking.
  • Well you know they are doing a lot of construction but I think they are providing safety assurances pretty well. Although on rainy days, those metal grates across the sidewalks are very slippery. I have almost fallen several times.
  • Have not seen any.
  • Parking lot needs to be finished at a faster rate than expected on the signs--that's ridiculous.
  • All the construction going on.
