| H & R Block was established over 40 years ago. Mr. G. O'Dell Parisher joined the franchise and between 1999 and 2001 purchased three offices in Woodsboro, Sinton, and Robstown, Texas. When he purchased the three locations, much of the equipment at each office needed replacement and new technology needed to be implemented to keep with new programs to service customers more effectively and efficiently.
In addition to new equipment and technology, there was a critical need to relocate one of the offices, due to a leaning structure on the verge of collapsing, and causing great risk to employees, as well as customers. In addition, the landlord of one of the other office buildings was looking to sell and would not be renewing the lease, requiring the relocation of yet another office.
Mr. Parisher heard about SBDC through an IRS workshop and felt this was the perfect opportunity to take advantage of their services. His daughter Donna Russel and son Mark Parisher contacted SBDC and began working with Elizabeth Soliz. Elizabeth assisted with a business plan and loan proposal to be presented to a lender. An SBA loan application was submitted and the lender reviewed and began making many changes to the proposal that were unacceptable to the client's plan. After going back and forth with this lender, they submitted their application to another lender. The loan was approved and Mr. O'Dell received his loan in several disbursements as needed for the purchase of real estate and equipment.
