Edward Borchard, M.D. and Velma I. Borchard, FNP-C started their pediatric practice in 1996. There are two Tots & Teens, PA, locations in Christi and Robstown, Texas. For this husband and wife team, it is quite clear that much of their success can be credited to an immense amount of dedication to improving the quality of life for all children, youth, and their families through qualitative, thoughtful, personal, and compassionate pediatric care. From a direct quote, "Our patients and their families deserve our utmost respect, and we demonstrate this in everything we do. We strive to protect and conserve the benefits of our families with the same vigilance that we would our own personal resources."

In February 2002, four years in business, and many patients later, Dr. Borchard, a true native of Robstown, Texas, born and raised there, found that he wanted to expand his business in town and give back to his community. He would do this by building a new clinic that would offer a high standard of health and wellness service to all patients and families in town. A state-of-the-art structure with quite a unique design and theme, modeling a railroad and locomotive architecture, as used for company logo & trademark, was ideal. This special expansion project would symbolize the Borchard's true excitement in what they do, as well as the true commitment to the children and families of Robstown. Dr. Borchard purchased a prime property in town and his dream became a giant step closer to reality.

The local Robstown Area Development Commission (RADC) and the local business community became very interested in Dr. Borchard's plan and offered their support. The RADC referred him to SBDC for business plan and loan assistance. Elizabeth Soliz assisted with a business plan, loan and proposal development presented to various agencies such as banks, SBA, and Texas Department of Economic Development.

Dr. Borchard submitted his plan to the various financing programs and was approved by Bank of America and SBA to begin his new construction project. A groundbreaking was held in February and the site development is in progress. There are plans for a Grand Opening in early 2004.

The expansion of Tots & Teens PA in Robstown will be a great asset to the local community and the Borchard's will continue efforts to be active in participating in health fairs, and educational events focused on care and the implementation of effective wellness programs such as early brain development.
