Rax Sports Bar

Rocky Dominguez is a young entrepreneur on a mission. He started at age 19 selling mobile homes in Corpus Christi . He soon realized that he wanted to open his own business so he started selling cell phone accessories out of the trunk of his car at age 20. This led to a new cell phone business with locations in both Kingsville and Alice , Texas . By 2003, Rocky started another business selling furniture in Kingsville . Finally, in 2004 he did his market research and made plans to open a new sports bar in Kingsville , Texas .

Rocky came to the Small Business Development Center for assistance with financing his new sports bar. Because Rocky was so motivated, he was willing to drive from Kingsville to Three Rivers , Texas to meet with his counselor, Larry Ellis. Larry Ellis assisted the client with his business plan, financial projections and a SBA LowDoc loan application. Rocky submitted his loan package to Texas State Bank in Bishop, Texas . With the support of his banker, he was able to get his new sports bar financed with a conventional business loan.

Next, Rocky went thru a difficult nine month process to get his new sports bar opened. He had to secure approval from the City of Kingsville for his new business location in a local shopping center. He even agreed to work for the contractor who did the construction work for the new sports bar.

Rocky Dominguez represents the epitome of an entrepreneur who will stop at nothing to realize his business dreams. At age 27, he has now been the owner of his new sports bar for almost 16 months proving the success of his business model. He has overcome great challenges and now has even bigger plans for new business ventures. He has come a long way from the time at age 19 when a local community official told him he couldn't be successful as a business owner. He really does represent the American dream that all entrepreneurs strive for.
