Dr. Kresser has worked in Corpus Christi for the past five years for several local clinics, including the Animal Hospital of Padre Island. When the owner of the Animal Hospital of Padre Island decided to sell the business, Dr. Kresser saw this as an opportunity to strike out on her own. However, her extensive veterinary experience alone wasn’t enough for her to successfully purchase the business. She would need assistance completing a business plan and financial projections to secure financing.
In January 2006, Dr. Kresser turned to the Del Mar College Small Business Development Center for guidance in purchasing the veterinary clinic as her own. SBDC business advisor Corina Salazar helped Dr. Kresser create the business plan and financial package so she could purchase the Animal Hospital of Padre Island through a loan with the CIT Group Inc. Dr. Kresser was then approved for a loan to purchase the business and the associated real estate. "Without Corina's help, I would not have been able to create the business plan, and therefore would not have been approved for the loan.” Dr. Kresser said, “Corina was very helpful and professional." Dr. Kresser has enjoyed much success since taking over the reigns of the Animal Hospital of Padre Island.
Dr. Christina Kresser achieved her goal of owning and operating a veterinary clinic. In addition, the business retained two employees and created three new jobs. The hospital currently specializes in providing full-service veterinary care by keeping pets healthy in a safe and compassionate environment.
The Animal Hospital of Padre Island is located at 14802 Compass Street on Padre Island.
