Adopted September 25, 1998


Article I - Name

The name of this organization shall be the Science, Engineering, and Mathematics Majors Organization and hereafter shall be referred to as SEMMO of Del Mar College located at Corpus Christi, Texas.


Article II - Purpose

SEMMO's purpose is to lend aid and guidance to new students, give current students a collective voice in the college, to help prepare students who are transferring to a four year university, and to engage in extracurricular activities in Science, Engineering, and Math Majors.


Article III - Membership

All members must be enrolled at Del Mar for at least three credit hours and maintain a 2.0 GPA. Membership selection is open without regard to race, sex religion, or national origin. Membership and voting privileges will be granted after payment of dues and submission of application.


Article IV - Officers

Section 1. Officers

President, Vice-president, Secretary, and Treasurer.

Section 2. Elections

The election of all officers will take place during the second meeting of each long semester.

Section 3. Qualifications

All officers must be members and maintain a 2.5 GPA.

Section 4. Terms

Officers' terms will last two long semesters.

Section 5. Vacancies

Any officer's position that becomes vacant will be elected at the beginning of the new long semester.

Article V - Duties of Officers

Section 1. President

  1. The President appoints officer positions that become vacant during a semester as needed.
  2. In the absence of the Vice-president, the President shall be the parliamentarian.
  3. The President shall also follow the duties outlines in the Del Mar Student Organization Guide.
  4. The President can appoint and establish committees.
  5. The President votes only in case of a tie.
  6. The President serves as an ex-officio member of all committees.

Section 2. Vice-president

  1. The Vice-president shall be the parliamentarian.
  2. The Vice-president shall assist the President in carrying out organization's business.
  3. In the event the President should become absent or is removed from office, the Vice-president shall succeed to the office of President for the remainder of the term.

Section 3. Secretary

  1. The Secretary is responsible for taking the minutes.
  2. The Secretary shall have a copy of the previous meeting's minutes at the beginning of each new meeting.
  3. The Secretary shall be responsible for obtaining agenda items from the President and creating an agenda for each meeting.
  4. The Secretary shall take roll at all meetings.

Section 4. Treasurer

  1. The treasurer shall handle all receipts and make all disbursements for the organization with the approval of the Senior Faculty Advisor.
  2. The treasurer shall deposit all collection money by the next business day.
  3. The treasurer shall use the college business office for depository.
  4. The treasurer shall present the books to the Senior Faculty Advisor for an audit at the end of each semester.
  5. The treasurer shall be the chairman of the fund raising committee.
  6. The treasurer shall keep accurate records of all financial transactions of the organization.

Section 5. Advisors

  1. There shall be at least one faculty advisor.
  2. The advisors shall serve as the official liaison between the organization and the College.
  3. The advisors shall approve or disapprove of all organization activities.
  4. The advisors shall approve all disbursements made by the treasurer and shall audit the Treasurer's books.
  5. The Alternate Faculty Advisor shall serve in the absence of the Senior Faculty Advisor and shall assist in the performance of the Advisor's duties.

Article VI - Dues

Section 1. Determination of Dues

  1. The amount of dues will be determined by the majority of members during the first week of the fall semester.
  2. Dues shall be turned in with membership applications.

Article VII - Meetings

Section 1.

The meetings shall follow Robert's Rules of Order.

Article VIII - Activities

Section 1.

All activities shall conform with the Del Mar Organization Guide.

Article IX - Amendments

Section 1.

Amendments shall require two-thirds vote of active members.

Article X - Removal of Officers

Section 1.

An Officer may be removed from office by a two-thirds vote.

January 23, 1998

Amendment I: Article IV - Officers, Section 2

This section read:
"The election of all officers will take place during the second meeting of each long semester."
This section is amended to read:
"The election of all officers will take place during the second meeting of a long semester."

Amendment II: Article IV - Officers, Section 4

This section read:
"Officers' terms will last two long semesters."
This section is amended to read:
"Officers' terms will last two long semesters beginning in the fall semester of each new year."
