ORAL REPORT OUTLINE

1.      Select a local social work agency.

2.      Sign up for the agency & a report date in class.  You may do your volunteer hours at this same agency, but you do not have to.

3.      Visit the agency; interview a social worker there; collect brochures & other written materials; visit the agency’s website if relevant.

4.      Your task is to get the information.  If person you interview doesn’t have, it try another source, i.e., brochure, website, phone call.

5.      Prepare an oral report (maximum of 15 minutes) for the class.  Audiovisuals (brochures, powerpoints, posters, etc) are very helpful in presenting information.  No written report is needed as the primary purposes of this assignment are to practice speaking about social work to others and to familiarize class with community agencies.

 

 

6.      Required information to cover in your report to the class:

 

  1. Name & location of agency;
  2. Name, credentials & position of person interviewed;
  3. Description of physical facilities & the surroundings;
  4. Hours of operation;
  5. Service area;
  6. Mission & history;
  7. Sanction;
  8. Programs offered;
  9. Qualifications to receive agency services;
  10. Fee structure;
  11. Annual agency budget, including revenue (support) & expenses;
  12. Number of consumers served each year;
  13. Average cost per consumer (total budget divided by number of consumers);
  14. Intra-agency structure (Organizational chart);
  15. Staff positions at the agency & qualifications;
  16. Interagency relationships/referral sources;
  17. Student’s evaluation of the agency:  What is it’s value to the community?

 

6.  Submit 3 exam questions (and answers) about your agency on the day of your oral report.
