Services for Students with Disabilites

Del Mar College is an "open door college" to students with disabilities who have a high school diploma or General Education Development Certificate. Students with documented disabilities must request reasonable accommodations through the Special Services Office on the campus where they expect to take the majority of their classes. Those students may be eligible for:


Assistive Technology
The assistive technology is available for use by any student with a disability who is registered with the Office of Special Services.
Classroom Exam Options
Students with documented disabilities that affect their ability to take tests in the classroom may qualify for:
  • Extended test time
  • Scribe or Reader Services
  • Assistive Technology
  • Alternative testing location

Designated Registration Time
For regular Registration and Schedule changes students with disabilities will be assisted by our staff at a designated time and place each semester. ( *Noted in the current class schedule ) 
Interpreter Services
Special Services contracts with local interpreter vendors to provide qualified sign language classroom interpreters for eligible students. It is the responsibility of the student to contact the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center at (361) 993-1154 each semester with a copy of their schedule so these services can be provided after the Specialist has approved the request .
Notetakers
Another student in the classroom who has agreed to provide a copy of their notes for the student with a disability, either for pay or volunteer. NCR paper is provided.
