Student Activities
The Student Activities Office provides Del Mar College students with programs and activities that complement the educational process. The programs provide students with interesting, entertaining and educational extracurricular activities. The objective is to enhance the esprit de corps and the development of students to become fulfilled, productive and responsible citizens in our society. The Student Activities Offices coordinate Registered Student Organizations, publish a weekly bulletin, schedule meeting rooms and present special events.

Registered Student Organizations
Many opportunities exist for students to pursue their special interests by joining one of the many Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) on campus. All RSOs have the privilege of being represented in the Campus Organization Council, which acts as a coordinating agency for RSO activities. RSOs are registered with the Student Activities Office.

Departmental RSOs are organized to give students opportunities for self-expression and leadership in activities related to their major field of study.

Special Interest RSOs are organized to serve and to promote special interest areas for students (such as governmental affairs, writing, physical and recreational activities, or religious groups). 

Honorary RSOs sponsor activities that promote and encourage scholarship, leadership and fellowship among students. Membership in the honorary organizations is selective based on academic achievement.

Students and/or individuals not part of a recognized club who wish to conduct an activity on campus which contributes to the educational and cultural environment of the College must obtain permission at least two weeks in advance from the Vice President of Student Development or his/her designee. Approved requests will be scheduled at a time and location which will not interrupt other schedule activities on campus.

Career Planning and Placement Services
The Career Planning and Placement Web site (www.delmar.edu/placement) provides job search information, calendar of Career Planning and Placement events and access to the Del Mar College Student Job Bank.
The Job Bank is a free job listing service available to Del Mar College students and employers 24 hours a day. Employers interested in hiring Del Mar College students have the opportunity to post part-time, full-time and career positions directly on the Job Bank. Students can review these employment opportunities by following instructions provided on the Job Bank site.

Cultural Programs
Several informative and entertaining programs are scheduled each semester free of charge to Del Mar College students and employees with valid College ID. The programs are paid for by the student services fee and are selected by the Cultural Programs Series Committee. Programs are publicized campus wide.

Intramural and Recreational Sports
Del Mar College’s intramural and recreational sports program is designed to provide opportunities for intramural competition and recreation for  employees of the College and all currently-enrolled academic students. 

It is the goal of the intramural and recreational sports program to be as broad as possible, offering students the opportunity to participate regardless of ability in a variety of activities such as tournaments, leagues and special events. These activities include team, individual and dual sports for three divisions: men, women and co-rec. Various skill levels are offered in all activities. The college recreational facilities include the gymnasium, 25-meter indoor pool, weight room, jogging track, racquetball and tennis courts. The facilities are available on weekdays and weekends. 

The intramural and recreational sports program is funded by the student services fee. Most events are offered free of charge. Some off-campus activities may have an entry fee. Early Childhood “parent” ID cards are not an acceptable form of identification for use of intramural and recreational facilities. Noncredit continuing education students and contract labor employees not directly paid by the College are not eligible to use recreational facilities.  For information, call the Intramural Sports Coordinator at (361) 698-1373.

Student Recruitment and Outreach Services Office
The Office of Student Recruitment and Outreach Services provides essential information about the College, its policies, procedures for admission, enrollment, and financial aid to prospective students. Vital information is made available through visits and presentations to area high schools, public agencies, and at public events such as Coastal Bend College Night.

Recognition Day
Each April outstanding students are chosen by various departments for their academic achievement. Scholarship recipients are also recognized at this all-College assembly. Hall of Fame finalists are announced at the end of this program. This program is funded by the student services fee.

Hall of Fame
Each spring faculty, administrators and students nominate sophomore students for consideration to the highest honor that can be bestowed on a Del Mar College student: the Hall of Fame. Selection is based on student scholarship, leadership and participation in Registered Student Organizations. A committee elects students from the list of nominees to join a select and distinguished group of students whose photographs are placed on the Hall of Fame Walls located in the Harvin Student Center. The Foghorn
The campus newspaper The Foghorn is published weekly except during holidays, summer and exams and is distributed free on campus. It is primarily an effort of the journalism classes, but non-journalism students are welcome on the staff. The Foghorn serves two purposes: to provide information about newsworthy events to the campus community and to afford journalism students an opportunity to develop their journalistic skills. The Foghorn is partially funded by the student services fee.

This Week on Campus
The Student Activities Office publishes this weekly bulletin, which includes an activities calendar for the week, general announcements and current information. Items for publication need to be submitted to the Student Activities Office by 5 p.m. on Wednesday the week prior to publication. The bulletins will be available each Monday morning in the Harvin and Coleman Student Centers and in other buildings on both campuses.

Publicity
The College Relations Office coordinates all publicity and publications for College events that are open to the public. Any news releases, public service announcements, publications distributed off-campus, or contacts with the news media must be coordinated by this office. Registered Student Organizations planning an event open to the public must contact the College Relations Office at least two weeks in advance of the event. 

Printed Material
Printed materials (displays, posters, petitions, handouts, surveys, etc.) which originate outside the College Relations Office must be presented to the Student Activities Office before being distributed or posted.
