The following information is what will be expected of students upon completion of the surgical technology program:

    Instrumentation:

    • Students will be able to identify and handle various surgical instrumentation used during invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

    Aseptic Technique:

    • Students will be able to don gown and gloves and prepare the sterile table with instruments, sutures, blades, cautery, suction, prosthesis, and solutions needed for the surgical procedure.

    Pharmacology:

    • Students will be able to differentiate between various medications administered to the patient pre, intra, and postoperatively. Students will also be responsible for handling certain medications given to the patient during a surgical procedure.

    Surgical Procedures:

    • Students will be able to assist in numerous surgical procedures. Students will also be proficient in the proper draping of operative surgical sites.
