Freshman Seminar-This course covers essential College survival skills, such as note taking, test preparation, time management, and College resources which are essential to your success. Additionally, students enrolled in occupational, technical, and health science programs may apply for assistance with childcare services provided at regional, licensed childcare facilities. Child Care-The Morris L. Lichtenstein, Jr. Center for Early Learning is an instructional facility for the Child Development/Early Childhood program. This facility provides on-campus child care for ages two months through 12 years. Professionally trained staff provide part-time and full-time care for days, evenings, and weekends. Rates are competitive with other area facilities. College students may qualify for childcare scholarships. Call (361) 698-1083. Military and Veterans Services-Del Mar is a designated Service Members Opportunity College dedicated to the educational needs of active duty military personnel and their dependents. The College is also approved for benefits under the Veterans Readjustment Act. Call (361) 698-1250. Honors Program-If you have high academic scores, you may want to participate in the Honors Program that allows you to take enriched courses and earn honors credits on your transcript. Tutoring-If you need free tutoring help with a specific course or just want one-on-one support to reach your personal or professional goals, contact the Student Tutoring Program (361) 698-1281. Student Technology Centers-You can take advantage of personal computer laboratories located in the William F. White, Jr. Library on the East Campus and the Barth Learning Resources Center on the West Campus. Your student technology fee allows you to access the latest software for completing class assignments or accessing the Internet. You must sign a Computer and Network Resources Acceptable Use Policy to use these resources. Stone Writing Center-Free tutoring on grammar, punctuation and sentence structure, along with help writing that research paper, are offered in the Stone Writing Center on the East Campus. English for Speakers of Other Languages Lab-The College offers special instructional programs and free tutoring for students whose first language is not English. Call (361) 698-1695. Reading Center-If you need to improve your reading skills for college assignments or just want to read with better comprehension, the Reading Center offers free assistance. Call (361) 698-1535. Resources for Excellence in Communication (REC) Center-Individualized computer modules, interactive audiotapes, and other specialized computer learning aids are available to help you with speech and foreign language courses. Call (361) 698-1581. Math Learning Centers-Centers located on the East Campus in the Memorial Classroom Building and the Coles Classroom Building offer help for your math classes. Centers are open days, evenings, and weekends. Call (361) 698-1960. Learning Resources-The College keeps more than 180,000 book volumes, along with thousands of audiovisuals and periodicals, in its library resources. Internet-accessible computers, audio equipment, permanent art collections, teleconferencing facilities and self-paced tutoring are available in the William F. White, Jr. Library on the East Campus and the Barth Learning Resources Center on the West Campus. TRiO Student Support Services Program-TRiO offers a variety of services for eligible students designed to enhance the educational experience. Services offered include tutoring, financial aid information, mentoring, college transfer assistance, career exploration, assistance with goal setting and attainment and academic and social activities. The goal of TRiO is to assist students in their efforts to successfully accomplish their goals. TRiO is located on the second floor of the Harvin Student Center on the East Campus. Call (361) 698-1589. Parking-For your safety and the general welfare of the College, you need a Vehicle Identification Permit (VIP) on your vehicle to park on College property. Permits are available on the first floor of the Harvin Student Center. Your first VIP is included in your general fees costs. You are responsible for ensuring that your vehicle is legally parked while on campus. Parking spaces fill up quickly during mid-morning and early-evening classes. Plan your travel to campus to beat the rush. Ride the RTA-Travel across the city for free with a valid Del Mar College student I.D. Avoid the parking hassles and save money on gas. The Regional Transportation Authority operates fixed routes and accessible B-line curb-to-curb bus service in Nueces County and parts of San Patricio County that directly and indirectly serve the College's two campuses and annex. For information about RTA's routes, visit their Web site at www.ccrta.org. Student Identification Cards-Student identification cards will be issued free of charge to all students upon initial registration. Identification cards must be validated each registration period. This card is required for admission to selected College functions, for obtaining library materials, and for using recreational facilities. The card is nontransferable. It should be carried at all times and presented upon request of College officials. A charge will be made for replacements. Identification cards may be obtained at the White Library (East Campus) or the Barth Learning Resources Center (West Campus) by showing proof of registration. Identification cards are made during all library hours except the first and last 30 minutes of operation. |
