Interim Vice President of Instruction Marjorie Villani
Marjorie Villani came to Del Mar College in November 2007 as the Interim Vice President of Instruction. Prior to that time, she served as the Executive Vice President at Pueblo Community College. She has more than 26 years of administrative experience in upper-level higher education. Among Ms. Villani’s other appointments at Pueblo Community College (PCC), she served as Vice President for the Fremont and Southwest Campuses, Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness and Vice President for Student Services. Prior to that time, she served as Assistant Provost for Student Services at New Mexico State University at Alamogordo.
Ms. Villani earned a Bachelor of Science degree with distinction in psychology from Colorado State University in 1975. She earned a Master of Science degree in college student personnel from Western Illinois State University in 1977.
Ms. Villani’s leadership and management skills include supporting and enhancing activities and programs related to associate of arts and associate of science transfer degree programs as well as associate of applied science and certificate degrees in vocational and technical programs in business, trades, technology, health and professional services. Ms. Villani also supported teaching and learning activities, including assessment of student learning, distance learning, library services, learning centers and instructional technology as well as promoted the development of business and industry training programs.
Ms. Villani has extensive experience in planning, accreditation and institutional effectiveness, including developing and coordinating the PCC College Assessment and Strategic Planning Process. Additionally, she provided administrative oversight for several PCC assessment and evaluation activities, including program reviews, institutional research, grants, reports for state and federal agencies, graduation retention rates and follow-up, along with overseeing Carl Perkins funds and other grant funds.
Villani also directed PCC’s comprehensive self-study process that resulted in a 10-year continued accreditation status (2001-2011), and she served as a Consultant-Evaluator and a member of the Reader’s Panel for The Higher Learning Commission. Currently, Del Mar College is undergoing the self-evaluation process for reaccreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) in 2010, and Ms. Villani is overseeing this process and serving as the institutional liaison to SACS.
The Chair Academy named Villani a 2007 Exemplary Leader Award recipient for her implementation of best practices to advance academic and administrative leadership development. Among other recognitions she has earned, Villani was named an Outstanding Young Woman in America, Phi Beta Kappa Member, Honorary Phi Theta Kappa Member, and a Pueblo African American Concern Organization Lifetime Honorary Member, among others.
Ms. Villani’s served on several community boards and organizations prior t coming to Del Mar College. Sheserved on the Board of Directors of the Fremont Economic Development Corporation; Board of Directors of the Pueblo Economic Development Corporation; Steering Committee for the Pueblo Education Consortium; Pueblo County Workforce Board; Cañon City, Greater Pueblo and Pueblo Latino Chambers of Commerce; and the Mexican American Engineers and Scientists Fundraising Team. |
