Ability to Benefit

Want to attend college level courses, but don’t have your GED or HS diploma yet? We can help!! The Texas Workforce Commission offers the Ability to Benefit grant that pays for a total of 6 credit hours.  Once those 6 credit hours are successfully completed and passed, you can then become Pell eligible without your GED or high school diploma as long as you remain enrolled in a basic education course.

Eligible Programs: 

  • Accounting Technician
  • Basic Carpentry
  • Bookkeeping
  • Brake Specialist
  • CNC Machining
  • Diesel Engine Mechanic
  • Heating & Air Conditioning
  • Heavy Equipment Operator
  • Welding 

Student Requirements: 

  • Must not have a current high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be willing to enroll and remain enrolled (until completion) of a general high school equivalency diploma.
  • Must be 18 years old (with parent permission) or older
