About Lucia

Lucia TorresBorn in Monterrey, NL. Mexico of indigenous and Jewish descent raised in the U.S. border, her body of work focuses on the richness, beauty, tradition, and struggle of her heritage. Torres started her art career while at Del Mar college and continued her studies at Texas A&M-CC obtaining a double major, Bachelor of Fine Arts, and a Bachelors in Spanish with the emphasis in Latin American literature. Then went on to master’s in interdisciplinary studies in the areas of Art, counseling, and Mexican American Studies and a master’s in counseling psychology. She is currently teaching Spanish and fine arts at Gregory Portland HS and also teaches for LULAC Summer Program at Del Mar College.

Her paintings, prints and photographs have been displayed in multiple groups exhibits and solo exhibits such as international women’s exhibit on Day of the Dead. Cannon Rd. Santa Fe, NM. Ernesto Maya Gallery. Art Center, TAMUCC gallery / Library, Museum of South Texas, TACHE Conf. exhibit, Festival Sephardi. Nahalat Gallery, Albuquerque, MN. to name a few.

Her "Aves de Fuego" exhibit is a collection of paintings that focuses on the richness, beauty, tradition and struggle of the Chicano Jewish experience.
