Academic Recovery Program (ARP)

Within the ARP, Retention Case Managers (RCMs) again employ an outreach/connection/triage/linkage/follow-up sequence across a Start Strong/Stay Strong/Finish Strong framework with students on academic probation or suspension (cumulative GPA below 2.0) to raise their GPA and attain "Good Scholastic Standing" with the College.

Students on Academic Probation

Removal of the registration hold requires you complete three (3) sequential steps:

  1. Complete a SmarterMeasure assessment.
  2. Complete an Assessment Review/Semester Goals form.
  3. Visit with a Retention Case Manager (RCM) to explore your learning assessment, individual circumstances, chart a course for improvement, and connect you with the necessary resources as applicable.

Students on Academic Suspension

Removal of the registration hold requires completion of seven (7) sequential steps:

  1. Complete a SmarterMeasure assessment.
  2. Complete an Assessment Review/Semester Goals form.
  3. Complete the Academic Suspension Appeal form.
  4. Visit with a Retention Case Manager (RCM) to explore your learning assessment, individual circumstances, chart a course for improvement, connect you with necessary resources as applicable.
  5. Visit with your Program Advisor/Chair. Program Advisors/Chairs stand ready to provide individualized guidance to include repeating failed courses, general course selection, and impact of circumstances on your specific degree plan. Direct questions about Program Advisors to 361-698-1290.
  6. Visit with your Academic Dean. Academic Deans discuss the appeal and grounds for continued enrollment.

(Examples: Not attending consistently, missing many assignments, mental health symptoms, etc.)  In the “Detailed Notes” section, write a statement explaining your concern.  Including specifics is helpful, but if you don’t have a lot of information, just write what you know.  Click on the “Save” button.
