Unfortunately, the 2022 First Chair Honor Band has been postponed until Spring 2023

 

The Del Mar College Department of Music is excited to announce the 2022 FIRST CHAIR HONOR BAND (FCHB). The First Chair Honor Band focuses on artistic and musical excellence of the highest caliber. As such, JUNIORS and SENIORS from high schools all over South Texas are invited to apply for the two day intensive rehearsal and educational symposium that leads to a performance at the legendary Richardson Performance Hall on the East Campus of Del Mar College. As it is our mission to provide you and your students with a positive, creative and motivational musical experience, the participation fee is $40 per student.

Participation in the FCHB is by band director recommendation. Each student who is recommended and accepted will be notified through their band director! Because of the optimistic feedback that we have already received about this year’s honor band, participation is limited to JUNIORS and SENIORS from each school; HOWEVER, we will consider nominations for exemplary sophomores and freshmen if a band director has strong feelings about a particular student. Each school is welcome to nominate as many juniors and seniors as they feel would benefit from this event.

The participation fee will allow us to provide each student with the following items:

  • Rehearsals and performance in Richardson Performance Hall
  • Master class participation with DMC faculty and other professional studio musicians
  • FCHB participation T-shirt
  • Friday evening dinner unless you want to take your kids out on your own
  • Saturday afternoon lunch for all participants and their directors

Added Attraction: For convenience sake, we will also hold Music Scholarship Auditions for future music students who would like to attend Del Mar College in the Fall, 2022!

Note: Once the music becomes available, please click the Concert Repertoire link above to open the page containing this year's music selections. Each of the folders contain only FIRST parts for Brass and Woodwinds.  Percussion should prepare all parts found in each of the files. We will use these parts for your Part Assignment Auditions which will take place after the opening meeting.

9:00 – 9:30 A.M. FIRST CHAIR HONOR BAND OPENING MEETING!!

9:30 – 11:00 A.M. Part assignment auditions in the Music Building
(Please report to the Richardson Performance Hall after your audition has concluded)

11:00 – 12:15 P.M. Rehearsal #1 in the Richardson Performance Hall

12:15 – 1:00 P.M. Lunch on campus which we will provide! (Pizza and Soda’s)  (For all students, teachers, directors, and parents)

1:15 – 3:15 P.M. Rehearsal #2 in the Richardson Performance Hall

3:15 – 3:30 P.M. Break (Snacks available for purchase or you may bring your own)

3:30 – 4:30 P.M. Sectionals TBA

Concert Attire: Formal black for all 

MALES: Tuxes, if possible.  If not, then white shirt with dark ties, black socks and shoes. 

LADIES: Long black concert dresses or slacks and black (dark) blouse.  No short skirts or open toe shoes permitted.
