Locating Films

Locating Films

You may be asked to analyze or review a film for an assignment. Movies are now more accessible than ever with video streaming services and the ability to buy or rent new releases online. Below is a list of resources to help you locate a film that suits your assignment.

Del Mar College (DMC) Reference Librarians

DMC Reference Librarians are experienced researchers who can guide you to useful tools and resources that make finding films easier. These librarians have created LibGuides that recommend online databases or other repositories for your use when researching. As a DMC student, reference librarians are available to support you throughout your studies. More information can be found on the DMC Libraries’ website at https://delmar.edu/library.

DMC Library Catalog

In addition to reference librarians, the DMC Libraries have an online catalog that lists all the items you can reserve or check out, including movies. When using the DMC Libraries’ Catalog to find movies, limit your search by item type and category for better results (e.g., video media, DVD video, or Blu-Ray video). After finding the movie in a suitable format, you can request the item from the Access Services desk on the first floor of the White Library on the East Campus or the Audiovisual Area of the Barth Learning Resources Center on the West Campus.

Local Public Libraries

There are six public libraries in Corpus Christi. Much like the DMC Libraries, the Public Libraries of Corpus Christi have an online catalog you can use to search for items, including films. You must obtain a library card from one of the library’s branches before you can check out items. Library cards are free for residents of Corpus Christi. Additional information about the Public Libraries of Corpus Christi can be found at https://www.cctexas.com/library/.

Online Services

If the film you are looking for is not available through the DMC or Corpus Christi Public Libraries, you can also search for it through popular online streaming services. Some of these streaming services are available for free, while others may require a subscription or rental fee. Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu are common examples of online video streaming services that require a subscription. Below you will find a couple of free-to-use services.

Archive.org

Archive.org hosts an online collection of films and videos that have become part of the public domain. As such, you will not find any recent films here. However, these classic movies are free, and many are available for download.

YouTube Movies & Shows
