Welcome to Del Mar Drama

Every year, Del Mar Drama produces six to seven main-stage productions and hosts or sponsors another three to four. Since 1986, the program has produced 90 plays involving over 2200 actors and technicians and has entertained over 76,000 patrons.

Our annual production season strives to entertain, enlighten and challenge our audiences, all the while providing our students an opportunity to learn a variety of dramatic literature and production styles. From Ancient Greek Drama, to Brecht, to Tennessee Williams, to Peter Shaffer’s award winning play Equus, we continue to challenge our students with works that explore the most urgent human and social issues of our time. The concept of putting the students first in our educational theatre environment is a fundamental source of pride for Del Mar Drama.

We continue to challenge our students, ourselves and our community by merging literature, design and performance in ways that test the bounds of theatre’s artistic possibilities. We celebrate the power and joy of live theatre as we educate our students and enhance the cultural fabric of our community.

National Association of Schools of Theatre Accreditation

As a proud member of the National Association of Schools of Theater (NAST), Del Mar Drama is one of a handful of distinguished and highly acclaimed programs in the nation.

NAST, founded in 1969, is an organization of schools, conservatories, colleges and universities. It has approximately 140 accredited institutional members and establishes national standards for undergraduate and graduate degrees and other credentials. Institutional Membership is gained only through the peer review process of accreditation. After a consultative visit, an extensive self-study and a visit by an evaluation team that focused on educational quality, institutional integrity and educational improvements, Del Mar Drama was voted an associate membership in April of 2004.

Del Mar Drama is the only community college in the State of Texas and only the fourth in the nation to be accredited by NAST. Our program proudly joins the Art and Music Department at Del Mar in what is only the second Community College in the nation to have all three of its Fine Arts programs accredited.
