  • Theatre, Music and Fine Arts

Every year, Del Mar Drama produces six to seven main-stage productions and hosts or sponsors another three to four. Since 1986, the program has produced 90 plays involving over 2200 actors and technicians and has entertained over 76,000 patrons.

Our annual production season strives to entertain, enlighten and challenge our audiences, all the while providing our students an opportunity to learn a variety of dramatic literature and production styles. From Ancient Greek Drama, to Brecht, to Tennessee Williams, to Peter Shaffer's award winning play Equus, we continue to challenge our students with works that explore the most urgent human and social issues of our time. The concept of putting the students first in our educational theatre environment is a fundamental source of pride for Del Mar Drama.

Students receive professional preparation by faculty who are excellent musicians and scholars. Our fully integrated program incorporates study in music education, performance, theory, sound recording technology and composition to ensure success after graduation. In fact, from Spain to Germany, from London to New York, Del Mar College graduates have performed in some of the most prestigious music halls around the world. The College is also the origin of the official Texas Jazz Festival, the Corpus Christi Symphony, and the Corpus Christi Chorale.

These exhibitions provide students and the public opportunities for cultural development and personal enrichment. Exhibitions include those of local art organizations, one-person and group shows by important local and regional artists, art faculty and student artists.

The 1,750 square foot Joseph A. Cain Memorial Art Gallery is the main exhibition space for the Department of Art and Drama. Student exhibitions are also staged in the hallway galleries in the Fine Arts Building. The highlight of the exhibition year is the annual National Drawing and Small Sculpture Show in the Joseph A. Cain Memorial Art Gallery. Judged by a nationally known artist, the exhibit attracts entries from all over the country.
