Program Overview
The Del Mar Drama Program provides a general theatre education to prepare students for transfer to a four-year institution or entry-level position in the industry. Students completing the program receive an Associate in Arts in Drama.
Drama Program Highlights:
- A technologically advanced 335-seat proscenium theatre, and an intimate, flexible “black box” theatre
- Fully-equipped scene shop, costume shop, and makeup studio
- Acting Studio and Computer Design Lab
- A five-member faculty whose specialties cover acting, voice, movement, scenic and lighting design and technology, special effects and pyrotechnics, costume design and technology, stage makeup, theatre history, and film studies
- Immediate onstage and backstage opportunities for incoming freshman
- Opportunities for student travel to professional conferences and productions
- Scholarship opportunities for select Drama majors enrolled as full-time students. Interested applicants can email drama@delmar.edu for an audition packet.
Drama Program courses and productions are open to all Del Mar students regardless of major. Some courses have prerequisites and minimum test scores.
Del Mar College is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre. The Drama Program is an institutional member of the Texas Educational Theatre Association.
