Program Overview

The Network Administration and Information Security degree offers students the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to perform as a network administrator or as a networking support specialist in a network business environment.

Hands on experience in hardware, network operating systems, system administration, and protocol labs are emphasized. As such, the computer courses on this degree plan (75% of the degree) are currently only available in person. A firm foundation in networking/telecommunication theory is also provided. Del Mar College is a Cisco Networking Regional Academy, offering preparatory courses for CCNA certification.

Network administration courses use industry standard network operating systems. All networking and operating system courses require significant hands-on activities, with appropriate laboratory time allocated for each course.

If the student is interested in getting into cybersecurity, this program, being both networking and security, is a great way to get started. This program on it's own is not generally enough to get someone into the cybersecurity field as that is not an entry level kind of job. However, it does provide the skills needed to get into the industry on the networking side, includes some cybersecurity courses, and can certainly lead to that kind of job down the line once a student has gotten some experience and further training.

This program is also transferrable to Bachelor of Applied Science(BAS)/Bachelor of Applied Technology(BAT) programs and many of our students transfer into cybersecurity BAS or BAT degrees to further their education when they finish this program.
