In a continuation of efforts to encourage the continued growth of the local court reporting community, Lexitas Legal has become a financial partner to the Court Reporting Program at Del Mar College.

Project Steno

Project Steno’s Basic Training program is a free introductory six-week program designed to introduce you to the rudiments of machine shorthand theory, the system used by professional court reporters and captioners to capture high-speed speech using a stenotype machine. In just a couple of hours of “class” time each week plus at-home practice time, you’ll learn how to write simple words in machine shorthand and become familiar with the steno keyboard. By the end of the program, you’ll know whether a career in court reporting or captioning appeals to you! Completion of one of these programs is required for Project Steno’s tuition assistance program.  To register, visit projectsteno.org/students.

Once you have decided that court reporting is right for you, you can apply to Project Steno’s tuition assistance program.  Project Steno offers tuition assistance to students we believe have the time and motivation to finish school in two years. Not all applicants will be accepted. All applicants will be interviewed by members of the Project Steno board and/or advisory council.

U.S. Legal Support

U.S. Legal Support has partnered with Del Mar College for the first incentive-based program in the history of Del Mar's Court Reporting Program.  The first student that passes a speed of 160 words per minute or above in one semester will be awarded $1,000.00.  The first award for the Del Mar Program was given in December 2019. The Spring 2020 recipient of the U.S. Legal Incentive Program Scholarship is Ms. Jessalynn De La Garza.  She was the first to achieve her speed tests in 160 and progress to the next level.  $1000 will be awarded by U.S. Legal.
